The Cheap, but Cheerful Hotel: Hotel Milano (307 Fortaleza St. (877-729-9050, from $85) is a wonderful addition to the scene; more like an Italian pensione, its rooms are clean, basic and inexpensive.

Concierge.com :
This small, cozy hotel in the center of Old San Juan will simply enchant
you with its beautiful classic architecture and elegant ambiance. Its location
is definitely one of its major assets—the Milano is situated in the heart
of the city on La Fortaleza Street, within walking distance to everything
in the district. It sits in a restored colonial building, and offers excellent,
personalized service. The Panorama Terrace Bar & Latin Grill is located
within the Milano.

We spent a couple of days exploring Old San Juan. Hotel Milano is right in the heart of it all.
The service was very good, clean rooms not expensive and the staff very accommodating.
It's owner operated, Don Juan is a charming mature gentleman in fact he made our stay such a pleasure we are considering coming back to Old San Juan at the end of this year and see some other parts in town we did not have time to cover during this visit .

We love staying at Hotel Milano. This is our 5th visit to Old San Juan, and our 5th stay at Milano.
We choose Milano for many reasons. The location is great. You can walk anywhere in the beautiful old town, and can get cabs or a shuttle out of the area, if you want to go the beach or elsewhere. The hotel is clean and neat and has the necessary amenities.
But our number one reason for coming back to Milano is the owner, Juan San Emeterio, and the staff at the hotel. We were married there nearly 3 years ago, and when we came back this time, we had been assigned to the same room we had on our wedding night and there was a bottle of wine and glasses waiting for us! It was such a thoughtful and delightful surprise. Juan is a fascinating and kind man. He has wonderful quotes and poems around the hotel that speak to his philosophy of caring. His staff is warm, inviting and helpful in true Puerto Rican fashion.
If you are looking for a non-chain hotel, more authentic experience in Puerto Rico, we highly recommend you stay at Hotel Milano.

We decided to stay a number of days in OSJ before taking a cruise leaving from San Juan. After the very positive experience on our first stay a few years back, we wanted to return to Hotel Milano. The owner and manager Juan and his staff offer themselves to the extent one feels as if you are staying at his home. The Hotel is in a great location and the price is a great value. If you want to be on a beach this is not the holel for you; or if you would rather pay $350+ per night this is not the hotel for you; however, if you want to enjoy the experience of staying in the center of old town and be treated as a valued guest and friend, this is THE hotel for you. On our next trip to OSJ. we will again stay at Hotel Milano,

Stayed one night after a cruise. People could not have been nicer or much more helpful to us. Room was large and comfortable. Location was nearly perfect for sightseeing in old city. If you want to stay at modern,up to date hotel with every modern convenience, this is not for you. If you want a hotel with charm, atmosphere, personal attention and great location, this is great place to stay.

Hotel with character and soul. Not a cookie cutter experience. Read
My three day experience at the Milano Hotel was the best hotel experience of my life. This is not a big casino type hotel, not at all - this place has character and soul. From its Elegant entry to its roof top restaurant (Panorama), the whole place is inspirational. I mean there are actually framed inspirational quotes hanging on the walls. I had the fortune opportunity to meet the hotel owner who continues to run his hotel "hands-on.” He has written several inspirational books himself and those are available in the clean rooms. I received top notch service from the bilingual staff, the clerks were very knowledgeable on all activities related to Old San Juan and went out of their way to make sure I was happy. The physical location is centrally located so perfectly that I did not use my rental car once while staying there because everything is within walking distance. Walking allows you to get a real feel for Old San Juan with its cobble streets and gorgeous architecture; however, if you don't want to walk -there is a free, yes free (no charge) air-conditioned shuttle that stops about a half block from the hotel that will take you all around Old San Juan.
The Hotel Milano is an excellent place to hang your hat, it's truly a great value. I'm looking forward to my next visit to San Juan, and I'll certainly stay there again!

Stayed here for a couple of days. Clean, friendly hotel that will bend over backwards to make your stay as good as possible. We'll definitely come back if we ever go to San Juan again! It's located smack in the middle of the most important street in Old San Juan so everything is within walking distance. Grrrrreat!

Hotel Milano is in a great location for all shopping, clubs, and many great restaurants. It is very close to the beaches - just a short ride by car or taxi. It is in walking distance to many local tourists sites and historical landmarks. The hotel is very clean, quite and the beds are comfortable - I actually slept through the night on my first night, which is something I never do. The staff is incredible, very friendly and helpful. I must say the rooftop restaurant has the best price in town for a continental breakfast. The staff there is very friendly and always full of conversation if you enjoy chatting.
The owner is also a very compassionate and kind man that has written two very interesting books available to read in each room - I bought both to have for myself.
Anyone who chooses to stay here will feel like they have found a home away from home.
I will definitely return! See you soon!

“Great quaint hotel in excellent location”

The Hotel Milano offers everything you need for a great night's stay - comfortable bed with ample room space, a great location in the heart of Old San Juan, and personable staff ready to help you when needed. Although not a luxury hotel, what else do you need? We were not in San Juan to stay in our room, so we were very happy with our clean, comfortable, and reasonable accommodations.
Walk right outside into a bustling little area with lots of shops and restaurants. Lunchtime on the weekends are great at outdoor cafes and at night the area lights up with people partying in the streets. An excellent experience (my husband and I are around 30 years old...this was a fun and happenin' place to be!). Also, during the day you are allowed to drink beer in the streets - ha!
Walk or short shuttle ride to El Morro - a must!
We were only in San Juan for about 24 hours, but we hit all the must-see's. After our cruise we did a tour of the Bacardi Distillery - neat, short, and you get tickets for 2 drinks!
Overall, we'd definitely come back to San Juan to explore some more, and Hotel Milano is a great find and more reasonable than the chains. Try it - you'll like it! :)
